Dr. Daniel Nyamongo Sagwe

Dr. Daniel Nyamongo is an accomplished professional in the fields of epidemiology and physiotherapy, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer and Coordinator at the Centre for Healthy Ageing (CEFHA) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). With a strong foundation in Rehabilitative Sciences, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Department as its inaugural Chair. His interest in aging was sparked during his time as the Africa Regional HIV/AIDS Coordinator for Helpage International, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by older individuals and their roles in caring for orphans and vulnerable children. With a PhD epidemiology, Dr. Nyamongo's research interests encompass STIs, aging, NCDs, health promotion, and professional ethics. He actively collaborates with the Ministry of Health as a member of the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Division of Healthy Ageing and Palliative Care for Older Persons. His expertise is recognized both nationally and internationally, as he has provided professional services for organizations such as AMREF and WHO. Dr. Nyamongo's leadership extends to his appointments as a Board Member of the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya (PCK), where he has served twice upon the recommendation of the Cabinet Secretary. He is also a current Board Director at Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital. At JKUAT CEFHA, he champions the drive for evidence-based research aimed at influencing policy action in aging, collaborating with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, and various NGOs. His commitment to improving the lives of older persons and promoting healthy aging is evident in all aspects of his work.
