Non-communicable Diseases Conference 2025

Welcome Note From the Conference Chair

A portrait photo of Dr. Patrick Amoth, conference chair png It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the First National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Conference, a landmark event dedicated to addressing one of Kenya’s most pressing public health challenges. Non-Communicable Diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, cancer, and mental health conditions, continue to account for a significant portion of deaths, hospital admissions, and healthcare costs in Kenya. The rising NCD burden is straining our health systems, which have traditionally prioritized infectious diseases, underscoring the urgent need for innovative, integrated solutions that can improve prevention, early detection, and management of NCDs at the primary health care (PHC) level.

This conference aims to provide a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration among policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, civil society, and development partners. Guided by the WHO Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs (2013-2030), the National NCD strategic plan 2021 -2026 and Kenya’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC), our discussions will focus on strengthening PHC systems. Special emphasis will be paid to discussions around  improving health financing, leveraging technology, promoting community engagement, and integrating care models that link PHC with specialized NCD services. By aligning our efforts with the Kenya Health Policy objectives and UHC agenda, we aim to chart a path toward building a more resilient, equitable health system that can effectively respond to the growing NCD epidemic.

As we embark on this journey together, we encourage all participants to engage actively, exchange ideas, and contribute to shaping the future of NCD prevention and control in Kenya. Let this conference inspire us to take bold, coordinated action that will accelerate the integration of NCD services into PHC, improve access to essential care, and ultimately enhance the health and well-being of all Kenyans. Welcome once again, and we look forward to a productive and impactful conference.

Dr. Patrick Amoth, EBS
